Why does music therapy work?
Music is a whole-brain brain activity that generates physiologic responses. Its predictable and structured nature can improve attention, enhance learning, and expand communication. Music listening and creation are motivating social experiences that can access memories and express or alter emotions.

“As a children’s librarian, we often share with families the value of singing and making music with their children in preparing them to be readers. Loren and Prospect Music Therapy provide so much useful evidenced-based information to library families on the importance of music in the healthy development of young children. They provide examples and then engage families with certain aspects of music and singing and how they support development. We appreciate having Prospect Music therapy as one of our valued community partners and resource for families.“
“Music therapy with Clara is the highlight of our week! The students are excited to attend, engaged, and actively participating during the session. Their uplifted mood carries on even after the session.“

Private Music Therapy
In our welcoming clinic or in your home, we help our clients improve communication, manage emotions, and increase self-confidence with our creative, strengths-based approach.
Through a phone or email consultation and a detailed intake process, our team will match you with a music therapist who has the skills needed to work towards your goals. Your music therapist will then spend the first two to three sessions completing an assessment and treatment plan with goals and objectives for your work together. Most of our clients meet with their music therapists weekly, and goals are updated as they are met or new needs arise.

We’ll be happy to meet with your team, tour your facility, and learn about the needs of your students or clients so that we can create a thorough music therapy plan of action. We’ll work within your budget, whether you’d like to provide monthly music wellness groups or need a full-time music therapist to be a member of your team.

Dose of Inspiration
Just hours after open-heart surgery, a patient in the surgical intensive care unit was greeted by his music therapist. They had never met, and he was reluctant to participate, but the surgeon had prescribed music therapy. The therapist sat by the bedside, assessing the patient’s pain levels and emotional state. She provided live music, using it to increase his comfort. In just a few minutes, his heart and respiration rates slowed and the patient reported increased relaxation. He requested that the music therapist visit again and continue to participate and benefit throughout his hospital stay.
